Last week, Bobby and I ventured to the Seaport to check out 111 East, a (fairly) new eatery focusing on Eastern Asian street food and hot pot. The first thing I noticed when walking in was the décor, which was vibrant and modern. I am weirdly obsessed with lip art (you can ask Bobby…I have three prints with lips on them in our apartment), and they had a really sick photo collage of neon colored lips on the front wall.
We sat outside and started by ordering two cocktails, the Cucumber Cooler and the 111 East Mule. The Cucumber Cooler was served in a Buddha and was really delicious. The mule was made of Sake, pineapple, passion fruit, agave and ginger beer. It was my favorite of the two.
For appetizers, we ordered the pan-fried pork gyoza, pork belly and chicken steamed buns and the Thai salad. The dumplings and pork buns were really juicy and flavorful. The salad was absolutely perfect for the hot summer night. It was made with a base of shredded mango, watermelon and jicama and was topped with kohlrabi, fresno, mint and Thai basil.
Per the recommendation of our server, we decided to order the ginger scallion lobster as one of our main courses. The pound and a quarter lobster was served ‘deconstructed’ atop a bed of glass noodles. The ginger and scallion flavors really elevated the dish and I thought it was a delicious spin on traditional lobster scampi. Bobby ordered the chicken ginger wrap sandwich and really enjoyed it.
111 East also has a ‘build your own’ section of the menu where you can craft your own noodle or rice dish. You have the option of choosing a protein, noodle base, vegetable and sauce. We wanted to try this too and went with a beef and udon combination. The udon noodles were really yummy and cooked to perfection.
To end the meal, they brought out a selection of mochi (which is one of my FAVORITE desserts). A solid ending to a great meal!
111 East is open daily from 11:30am to 10pm. You can check out their menu here.
